The Australian & New Zealand Search and Rescue Conference (SAR) is pleased to announce George Hill, COO at Surf Life Saving Queensland will be presenting at the one-day event being held on 6th May 2015 at Jupiters Gold Coast.

George HillGeorge Hill officially joined Surf Life Saving Queensland in a professional capacity in January 1999 following more than 24 years of involvement with the movement as a nipper and volunteer patrolling member.

In his current role as Chief Operating Officer, George is primarily responsible for the management and delivery of integrated and innovative lifesaving services in the pursuit of SLSQ’s vision of ‘zero preventable deaths in Queensland waters’.

Across the past 16 years George has been at the forefront of SLSQ’s disaster management and response strategies, and works closely with Emergency Management Queensland across a range of areas. He currently sits on the Queensland Governments State Disaster Coordination Group on behalf of SLSQ.

He played a key role coordinating SLSQ’s ‘on-the-ground’ operations during the 2011 Brisbane floods and severe flooding across Roma, Charleville, Mitchell and St George in 2013.

George is directly responsible for managing SLSQ’s volunteer lifesaving members, its operations support, the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service, and state-wide communications.

Outside of his professional role, George has been a volunteer lifesaver since 1975. He is a Life Member of Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club and the Surf Life Saving South Coast Branch. In 1991 he was named Queensland and Australia’s Surf Lifesaver of the Year and, in 1999, was recognised with an International Life Saving Federation Citation of Merit.
