peter grahamWe are pleased to announce Mr Peter Graham, Australian Director and Senior Maritime operations Consultant, UASSA as a speaker at The 2016 Australian and New Zealand Search and Rescue Conference (ANZSAR); Land, Sea & Air to be held at the Jupiters Hotel, Gold Coast on the 1 June 2016.

Mr Graham will speak in the SAR Technology and Operations forum on UAS Services Australia.

UAS SERVICES AUSTRALIA (UASSA) is a group or serving law enforcement officers from Australia and Canada as well as maritime search and rescue experts. They have been trained by the FBI, United States Border Patrol, United States Military drone suppliers, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), The city of London Police  and the Queensland Police service.

Their Canadian consultant is the head of the largest UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems)(Often referred to by the media as a “drone”)  policing operation in the world being in charge of more than one hundred operational officers and sUAS (Small Unmanned aerial systems), including officers operating UAS in extremely remote indigenous communities.  His staff were the first to successfully conduct a search and rescue operation using a “Drone” (UAS).

UASSA staff specialise in small unmanned aerial vehicle operations, counter piracy, counter terrorism and border security, Counter UAS operations, fisheries departments, weed and pest control to name just a few.

Main points of discussion include UASSA background in unmanned aerial vehicles and systems, the priorities and criteria for selecting a suitable UAV for search and rescue operations, examples of unmanned aerial operations both here and overseas. Discussed will also be Government restrictions of unmanned aerial operations, capabilities of UAV’s present and future and training requirements to operate unmanned aircraft in Australia.

Mr Graham will discuss outsourcing UAV operations to private enterprise versus owner operator operations, live streaming of open or encrypted data from UAV to command bases, smart phones, vehicles or vessels.

Peter Graham has been the President and Senior Training officer for the Volunteer Marine Rescue in North Queensland for many years. Peter has conducted SUAS research in Europe, Britain, and with US military suppliers in the United States of America. Peters’ research into SUAS was with the view of identifying systems that were capable of launch and retrieval from water borne platforms.

Peter is a bravery award winning Marine rescue officer and has researched, written and delivered many training courses. He would be considered an expert in maritime search and rescue and a pioneer in the introduction of SUAS operations over water. He has accumulated thousands of hours performing search and rescue duties many of which were conducted in extremely remote and dangerous locations.
