The 4th annual Australian and New Zealand Search and Rescue Conference will be held on Wednesday 23rd May 2018 at the Star Gold Coast.

Mr Shane Johnson, Independent Advisor, Aviation Special Mission & Aviation / Maritime Emergency Response joins us at the Conference to present ‘Hazards at Aviation Accident Sites – Protecting Emergency Responders’.

Abstract

It is common for police, fire, ambulance, SES and helicopter rescue crews to attend off-airport aviation accidents. Aviation accident sites have always presented a range of hazards for emergency responders. Electric propulsion, composite materials, airbags and ballistic parachute systems are recent developments in aviation technology that are generating additional aviation accident hazards.

This presentation examines existing and developing hazards associated with working at an aviation accident site. The presentation will also address how emergency response agencies may control risks through hazard awareness, procedures, PPE and training.
