Now in its 4th consecutive year, the 2018 Australian and New Zealand Search and Rescue Conference will this year be held on Wednesday 23rd May 2018.
This one day event aligns alongside the Australian and New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd May. With an emphasis on discussion, debate and ideas exchange, the Program will include presentations from specialist feature speakers and session speakers on a range of topics and issues impacting the sector.
Superintendent Cameron Edgar, Zone Manager, NSW Ambulance Rescue Helicopters joins us as a Keynote Speaker at the conference and will discuss ‘One of your own: Lessons from an incident’.
No one expects to experience the loss of a colleague on duty, let alone having to manage the post incident environment. Through a personal perspective this presentation will discuss the immediate and longer-term experiences and actions following the death of a team mate and the lessons learnt through experience and support. In particular, this presentation will provide an insight into how people can react and discuss practical considerations for managing traumatic events.
Cameron’s career has spanned several professions, with experience in the military, emergency services and education. Cameron is currently the Manager of Southern NSW helicopter operations, responsible for the operation of four rescue helicopter bases with 150 staff, including medical teams responding to remote areas, canyons, cliffs, caves and aquatic search and rescue missions. Cameron has been a paramedic for 24 years and is certified as Critical Care Helicopter Paramedic and member of the NSW Special Casualty Access Team. Cameron is also a Peer Support Officer and has a strong interest in staff welfare and the role it plays in leadership, safety and organisational effectiveness.
Discounts are available to groups and those attending both the 2018 Australian and New Zealand Search and Rescue Conference and the 2018 Australian and New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference, which will run consecutively at the same venue.
We’re looking forward to another successful event in 2018 and we hope to see you there. If you would like further information on the 2018 Australian and New Zealand Search and Rescue Conference please visit www.sar.anzdmc.com.au
